Prophet Muhammad () said, “Read the Qur’an, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.”[Muslim]

Reigniting and deepening our connection with the Quran in preparation for Ramadan is a deep commitment. The Quran, our guiding light, and the word of Allah (swt) contain endless wisdom and gems for those who seek them.

As we approach the sacred month of Ramadan, the month of the Quran, it becomes pivotal to efficiently prepare ourselves to receive the abundant gifts and blessings from this divine book. Let us embrace this endeavour of reconnecting with the Quran with sincerity, recognizing that the journey to a strengthened bond with the Quran is a personal and transformative one that deepens our connection to the mercy and blessings of Allah and ultimately enriches our spiritual path.

Here are some valuable steps we can take to strengthen our connection with the Quran:

Intention (Niyyah):

Start by setting clear intentions for reconnecting and reciting the holy Quran. Reflect on why we want to deepen our relationship with the Quran and how it can positively impact our lives. Make multiple intentions connected to reciting the Quran. The Quran is a cure for every circumstance.

Start with small goals:

Begin with realistic and achievable goals. Whether it’s reading a few verses or a page a day, or 5–10 minutes, setting small goals will make it more manageable and help you stay consistent. Consistency is key.

Dedicated time for the Qur’an:

Establish a routine and select a specific time for reading and reflecting on the Quran. This could be early in the morning, during lunch, or before bedtime. Even for a few minutes, ensure that you spend time with the book of Allah.

Understand the meaning:

If you don’t understand Arabic, consider reading translations to understand the meanings of the verses. Understanding the message enhances the impact of your reading. The Qur’an is a blessing from Allah (swt).

Reflect on the verses:

Take time to reflect on the verses you read. Consider how they relate to your life, and think about the lessons and guidance they provide. If you do not understand what you are reciting, reflect on the greatness of Allah (swt) for allowing us to recite His book and words; we are blessed.

Listen to the Qur’an:

Listening to Quranic recitations by renowned reciters can be a spiritual experience. It can enhance your connection with the words of the Quran and make our reading sessions more meaningful.

Seek Knowledge:

We are blessed with an abundance of scholars who conduct Quranic classes intending to deepen our understanding of the Quran. Take advantage of these classes to empower and educate ourselves.

Make Dua (Supplication):

Ask Allah for guidance and assistance in understanding and implementing the teachings of the Quran in our lives. Let us fervently turn to Allah, seeking His acceptance. Making Dua regularly can strengthen our spiritual connection with the book of Allah (swt). Only Allah can guide us.

Remember that the journey of reconnecting with the Quran is personal and an ongoing one, and progress may take time. Be patient with yourself and approach it with sincerity and dedication. May our efforts bring us closer to the Quran and enrich our spiritual journey, especially in preparation for Ramadan. We ask Allah (swt) to accept the steps we take toward reconnecting, reciting, and reflecting on the holy Qur’an.
