Position Identification
Position Title: Child Care Worker
Organisation: Islamic Relief South Africa Location: Republic of South Africa – Johannesburg Contract: Twelve months
Reports to: Orphans Programme Officer

Purpose of Position
To respond holistically to the needs of orphans and vulnerable children, youth and families who are vulnerable and at-risk and sponsored by Islamic Relief South Africa
Candidates are screened, selected, trained and deployed as child and youth care workers servicing families in their own communities.
To provide feedback of home visits and needs within the community to the line manager
To play an active role in terms of home based care as and where the need arises
To network and engage with stakeholders in the community in which the OVC’s reside

Key Responsibilities
Act as point of reference for inquiries from guardians and orphans
Provide reports and case studies, as required by Orphans Officers, and provide guidance on case management best practices
Meet with Orphans Coordinator to complete field placement site visits, as needed
Coordinate with relevant staff to complete necessary field placement paperwork, including all placement evaluations required by the orphans section and Al-Yateem system
Preparing field reports for projects and assisting in editing
Prepare, maintain and keep registers on the status of the project at formulation, implementation and operational stages
Any other duties assigned by line manager Educational Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree/ diploma
Must have a proficient command of the English / Afrikaans or Xhosa language
Proven track record of working with children or the demonstrated ability to work with children
Proven social work qualifications
Skills & Knowledge Required
Knowledge of the community in which OVC’s reside
Basic counselling skills for intake
Enthusiastic and motivated individual
Passion for community development and working with less fortunate children
Basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS and child-headed households
Must be a good writer. Must have a knack for writing in English and be good with grammar. Also, be sure of your spellings, punctuation, and online readability expectations. It also helps to be able to write fast and accurately.
Be prepared to produce fresh and quality content daily. This means having a good source of ideas, knowledge, and research resources at hand
Time management skills required.
Maintain accurate records and reports on OVC status
Must be proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Proficient with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work as part of a collaborative team both at the office and remotely on the field
Candidate must be very organized and detail oriented
Creative problem solver and highly adaptable to OVC needs
Creative and innovative approach to online and offline media
Willing to work after hours, when required to do so.

Other Job Related Conditions
To assist with program related tasks and activities as and when the need arises
To report any legal matter relating to OVC’s expeditiously to the line manager
To ensure the holistic well-being of each OVC entrusted to IRSA
