0.7% International Development Bill success!

On Monday 9th March 2015, the International Development Bill passed its third reading in the House of Lords, completing its final stage before receiving Royal Assent. Once passed, the Act will enshrine in law the UK’s long-standing commitment of investing 0.7 % of national income in lifesaving aid.

Islamic Relief is proud to have worked on this historic #TurnUpSaveLives campaign to make this happen

Jehangir Malik, UK Director said:

“Alhamdulillah, we very much welcome this historic moment today. The cross party support further shows Britain’s global leadership in the fight against extreme poverty. Thank you to all the MPs and Lords who voted for this important issue.”

The bill passing today means that we can now move the conversation away from the quantity of aid, but towards the quality of aid It sends a strong signal to other countries to do more to keep their promises to the world’s poorest.

Islamic Relief is proud to have worked alongside many other NGOs in this massive achievement, it shows the power of collaboration and collective action can truly make change happen.”
