On Tuesday 19 September, a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck approximately 75 miles from Mexico City, which is one of the busiest cities in the world.

At least 225 people have been confirmed dead.

This is the second earthquake to strike Mexico within two weeks, causing widespread devastation, and leaving many collapsed buildings in its wake.

Thousands are missing as emergency services claw through the rubble in the hope of rescuing survivors as the death toll continues to rise.

According to BBC News reports, over 20 bodies have been pulled from a primary school which collapsed during the earthquake.

The earthquake struck as Mexico commemorated the anniversary of its deadliest earthquake on record in 1985.

Islamic Relief continues to closely monitor the situation in Mexico.
