According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 4.8m Syrians have fled the country in search of safety. The number of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) has now risen to seven million across Syria.

13.5m people in Syria need humanitarian assistance

Relief work in Syria continues to be affected by the complexities of the ongoing crisis. These are increasing the suffering of the Syrian people by limiting the chances of humanitarian aid reaching those most in need.

As a result there is an urgent need for relief and local development organisations – the activities delivered by these organisations are critical to meeting the varied humanitarian needs.

Providing capacity building training

Islamic Relief is working in partnership with The Humanitarian Forum, which has vast experience in building civil society organisations, to build the capacity of local organisations responding to the Syrian crisis.

Training courses will be delivered to 50 Syrian and non-Syrian organisations based in Turkey and Lebanon over a course of eight months. The training will support local organisations, helping to raise their operational and managerial capacities to respond effectively to the impact of the crisis in Syria and its neighboring countries.

The specialised training programme will address the following identified areas of need:

  • Archiving
  • Finance and procurement
  • Human resources
  • Media and press
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Programmes implementation
  • Safety and security
  • Strategic planning and governance
