international relief and development charity, which aims to alleviate the suffering of the world’s poorest people.

 

Position Identification

 

Position Title : Digital Designer

Organization : Islamic Relief South Africa

Location : Cape Town, South Africa

Reports to : Content Creation Coordinator

 

Purpose of Position

  • To design and produce a wide range of communication and marketing materials for Islamic Relief South Africa including, but not limited to, newsletters, posters, flyers and signage.
  • To contribute meaningfully towards IRSA’s branding and marketing objectives.
  • Create visuals, brainstorm concepts, work with team members to develop concepts, and ensure that the final product is aligned with IR guidelines and standards.
 

Key Accountabilities

 

The specific details of a junior designer’s role will vary depending on the role, but common activities include:

  • Develop creative design concepts that meet the business objectives of the organization and that advance the brand strategy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to generate ideas for marketing and fundraising campaigns.
  • Estimating and communicating design timelines effectively to stakeholders
  • Turning design requests into a comprehensive creative brief
  • Thinking creatively to generate visuals that connect with the intended audience
  • Conducting regular market research
  • Working with different mediums and identifying the best option for each project
  • Using computer-aided design (CAD) and software like InDesign to generate visuals
  • Working on layouts and the overall presentation of a campaign
  • Coordinating with creative team for necessary design elements
  • Presenting drafts and making requested updates to the design
  • Preparing and providing required files to vendors and service providers, like a printer or web designer
  • Prepare all the necessary artwork needed for campaigns elements, brochures, publications and artwork for other departments and projects within IRSA.
  • Ensuring on-time delivery of all creative elements.
  • Implements the brand identity and guidelines for maintaining brand consistency throughout all IRSA creative elements.
  • Provide revisions to all design elements produced by the design team, ensuring no mistakes are made on the creative material.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops; reviewing professional Publications and participating in learning experiences with IRW staff and personnel.
  • Maintain electronic archives of marketing and communications materials in chronological order, ensuring easy access.
  • Making sure artwork is correct, accurate and supplied in the right format/sizes/colour codes before being sent to press and production facilities.
  • Work on multiple briefs at the same time.

 

Educational Qualification:

  • Recognized Degree at a reputable institution in Design and/or a relevant study with similar outputs.
  • Minimum 2 3 years of professional experience in similar position with demonstrated experience within a fast paced marketing and creative design environment.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite packages, including InDesign, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash and CSS.
  • The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

  • A background of working as part of a design team
  • The ability to see projects through from inception to production
  • Consistency regardless of project size
  • Good organisational skills that support the rest of the team
  • The motivation to maintain and improve design standards
  • The willingness to listen to feedback and use it to improve.
