Aisha Phiri is a 27 year old single mother of two toddlers, aged 2 years and 6 months, who lives in Hatcliffe Extension, on the outskirts of Harare, Zimbabwe. She is a qualified mualimah but has been unemployed for more than a year.

She lives on less than $20 a month and relies on financial support from her relatives. Her children stay with her at home as she cannot afford to send them to nursery school.

An average day is spent doing her household chores and reading the Quran, which she says, is her favourite hobby.

Aisha was one of the recipients of Islamic Relief South Africa’s 2016 Ramadan food distribution programme.

“As a mother, my biggest dream is to find a job so that I can provide for my children. I want them to study so that they can give back to the community. Jazakallah for bringing this food to our community. Most people are starving in Zimbabwe. May Allah reward you well so that you may continue to help people.” – Aisha, 27, Hatcliffe Extension.
