Islamic Relief receive hearty donation of £227,000 from Birmingham mosque
The mosque worked extremely hard to raise funds for Syria and Palestine over the month of Ramadan.
The work of Islamic Relief would be impossible without the support of our donors, volunteers, community groups and mosques all over the country. We are always inspired and moved by the work our supporters to and value everything they bring to our organisation. On 4th September Islamic Relief UK’s Director, Jehangir Malik visited Green Lane Mosque in Birmingham to collect a hearty donation of £227,000 towards Palestine and Syria.
Green Lane Mosque have been supporting the work of Islamic Relief for many years, and over the month of Ramadan worked extremely hard to collect such an honourable sum for the needy in Palestine and Syria. There have been regular cake sales held at the mosque, with all proceeds going towards Islamic Relief’s Syria Appeal, and a number of staff and members of the Green Lane Mosque congregation participated in the Islamic Relief sky dive in May 2014!
On Saturday 19th July 2014 (22nd night of Ramadan) the mosque held an emergency appeal to raise funds to provide vital medical and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people who were affected by the recent crisis in Gaza. The Muslim community came together to show their support and solidarity for the Palestinian people by donating a total of £100,000.
The mosque runs a ‘Taskforce Syria’ project, which focuses on providing both short term emergency aid to the people of Syria, and long-term sustainable projects. On Thursday 24th July 2014 (27th night of Ramadan) the mosque held a special fundraiser, which included a presentation on the plight of orphaned children and widowed families in Syria. The generosity of the Muslim community was clearly evident as the fundraiser raised a total of £123, 317.68.
Green Lane Masjid told us: “We are extremely grateful to our community who has so generously donated towards the plight of the innocent Palestinian and Syrian people who are still going through tremendous suffering and hardship on a daily basis. The Muslim community in the UK have responded wholeheartedly to our fundraising appeals which were held during Ramadhan to assist our Muslim brethren in both Gaza and Syria. The total amount we raised equates to nearly a quarter of a million pounds. This is an amazing achievement Alhamdulillah.”
Islamic Relief would like to warmly congratulate Green Lane Masjid for their fantastic efforts on fundraising for the needy and bringing the muslim community together. We are entirely grateful for their efforts, and pray Allah accepts it from them and rewards them in abundance.
