“I feel very depressed”

Already scarred from the traumas of war, people have to face yet another ruthless enemy – the harsh and brutal chill of winter.

“I feel very depressed”

In these camps, we find Hannah with her husband and two young children. Hannah had to flee from Syria during an intense bombing campaign which destroyed the family home and claimed the lives of her father and brother. She recounts her story to us, saying,

“I fled with my children and we began our long and difficult trip. We arrived at this camp near the Syrian-Turkish border. At the beginning it was difficult to adapt to life here, it is very cold and there is a lack of basic necessities such as food, water, and adequate shelter. Our tent is not fit for living in as water always leaks in and our clothes and mattresses get wet.

“I feel very depressed when I see that my husband is unable to provide us with the items we need in order to cope with the harsh winter conditions. Sometimes he is able to work as a porter and earns a bit of money to buy bread. My children are ill due to the shortage of food and the extremely cold weather. There are not enough heating devices in the camp so I rely on wood to cook with and to make a fire so my children can be warm.”

Love is…a warm woolly blanket on a cold winter’s day

‪We can only imagine what life is like in sub-zero temperatures without food, warmth and shelter, yet this is the reality for Hannah, her family and millions of Syrians every day.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Together we can help bring ease to those in difficulty by providing simple yet lifesaving items such as coats, blankets, fuel and food. Not only that, by helping those in need, Allah will reward us with His help in return, as per the statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said:

“Allah is helping the servant as long as the servant is helping his brother.” (Muslim)

Alhamdulillah, with your support Hannah has already received some provisions but is in need of further items to help her family survive this winter. She told us,

Islamic Relief has kindly provided us with mattresses and blankets and we are really hoping that they will also provide us with heating devices, a strong tent and warm clothes for our children. Life will be very hard without these items. May Allah bless you and reward you.”

This winter, you can send your love to others like Hannah who are struggling, by providing essential winterisation items for their safety and survival. These items can make the difference between surviving the winter or facing death.
