Edgbaston backs Islamic Relief water projects
As Pakistan’s cricket team prepares for its first tour of England for six years this summer, Edgbaston Cricket Ground has committed to supporting our work to deliver clean water in Asia and Africa through a fundraising initiative at England’s third Investec Test Match against Pakistan in August.
The partnership launched earlier today between Edgbaston and us aims to raise over £100,000 for our innovative and sustainable water projects, which would supply clean water to over 4,500 people. Edgbaston have kindly agreed to make a £3 donation for each test match ticket bought by our supporters.
Tickets for the test match (3 – 7 August 2016) have already gone on sale. To trigger a donation, all cricket fans have to do is quote the code ‘GIVE’ when buying a ticket for the match online (www.edgbaston.com) or by phone (0844 847 1902).
Islamic Relief’s UK Director, Imran Madden, says: “Nearly 800 million people have no access to clean water – a tragedy that silently claims the life of a child every single minute. Together we can bring clean water and fresh hope to some of the world’s poorest communities and we’re thrilled and honoured to have Edgbaston’s support for our fundraising campaign.
“Supporters always generate a fantastic atmosphere at internationals at Edgbaston, and whether you’re with the Barmy Army or the Stani Army, the Investec Test between England and Pakistan promises to be a great occasion for Birmingham’s cricket-mad community.”
Arnes Pobric, Edgbaston Marketing Manager, says: “We are working closely with the local community and other key Birmingham institutions to build a legacy that sees more Asian cricket supporters play in local competitions and attend domestic and international matches at Edgbaston.
“Our work with Islamic Relief forms a key part of this and we are delighted to work with such a fantastic Birmingham-based charity, which does a huge amount of good work to overcome poverty around the world.”
England face Pakistan in the third Investec Test Match at Edgbaston from Wednesday 3 to Sunday 7 August 2016.
