Position Title:  Digital Intern
Organisation:   Islamic Relief South Africa
Location:   Cape Town, South Africa
Reports to: Head of Communications

Purpose of Position

  • To establish the look and feel for various elements, including websites, social media and
    print
  • Work within brand guidelines to create layouts that reinforce our brand’s style and voice
    through its visual touchpoints
  • Work on marketing items, presentation materials and interactive event materials while
    effectively managing timelines and expectations

Key Responsibilities

  • The specific details of a digital intern’s role will include:
  • Offering input to creative meetings and sharing ideas.
  • Producing attractive and effective designs for all media.
  • Communicating with senior team members to receive feedback.
  • Liaising effectively with clients and other team members.
  • Supporting the team throughout the execution of campaigns and project.
  • Working closely with other HOD and senior designer to conceptualise, design and layout a
    wide range of advertising and print formats.
  • Picture sourcing and editing.
  • Layout of publication.
  • Generating fresh design ideas.
  • Giving creative input.
  • Preparing and finalising pages for print.
  • Archiving and filing of all design work for ease of reference and access (of FDC server).
  • Prepares content for social media.
  • Actively implements social media strategy.
  • Social Media Content administration.
  • Archive all media in chronological order, ensuring easy access.

Educational Qualification:

  • Recognized Degree at a reputable institution in Design and/or a relevant study with similar outputs.
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years of professional experience in similar position with demonstrated experience within a fast paced marketing and creative design environment.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite packages, including InDesign, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash and CSS.
  • The ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Adeptness with leading design software packages
  • A determination to achieve and succeed
  • Some creative industry experience
  • The ability to meet deadlines in a high pressure environment
  • A background of working as part of a design team
  • The ability to see projects through from inception to production
  • Consistency regardless of project size
  • Good organisational skills that support the rest of the team
  • The motivation to maintain and improve design standards
  • The willingness to listen to feedback and use it to improve.
