Position Identification
Position Title: WASH Facilitator

Organisation: Islamic Relief South Africa ‘IRSA’

Location: Durban Office-KZN

Contract: Three Months fixed term Contract

Reports to: Regional Programmes Coordinator-KZN

Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Project Manager, the WASH Facilitator will play a central role in ensuring that the WASH component of the KZN Floods Emergency Response Project is implemented in a timely and effective manner.
 

Key Accountabilities

  1. Project Management:
    • In liaison with the Project Manager, plan community awareness sessions to promote WASH uptake in target areas.
    • Facilitate health and hygiene sessions in target areas.
    • Promote WASH practices including personal hygiene, environmental and food
    • Work closely with area Councilors in securing attendants and venues for the health and hygiene sessions.
    • Ensure that health and hygiene sessions are implemented according to the project concept and attendance registers are signed and retained.
    • Ensure that relevant indicators are recorded, tracked, and reported.
    • Ensure visual documentation of all health and hygiene sessions.
    • Provide technical input in developing WASH information and education materials including brochures.
    • Coordinate transport logistics of participants to attend sessions.
    • Provide timely and high-quality activity reports.
    • Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
  1. Financial Management and Controls:
    • Oversee the efficient administration of the project in terms of finances.
  1. Project Monitoring:
    • Ensure accurate attendance registers of all sessions
    • Oversee the distribution of hygiene and dignity kits, Water and Diarrhea kits.
    • Confirmation of training venues.
  1. Reporting:
    • To provide activity weekly and monthly reports,
    • Maintain records of all training materials.
  1. Others:
    • Travel to project sites .
  • Carry out, where possible, any other duties that is in line with the job purpose as requested by the line-manager.
 

Key interfaces:

  • Communicates effectively and systematically across the organization.
  • The Regional Programmes Coordinator-KZN,
  • The Project Manager.
  • HoD.
 

Educational Qualification:

  • A graduate degree in Water and Environmetal Engineering, public health or any other related field.
 

Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of successful project management, experience in Water and environmental Engineering or public health,
  • Knowledge of community participation and engagement.
  • Proven skills in facilitation and training of behaviour change programs.
  • Well-developed organizational and planning skills.
  • Management skills, including strong teambuilding skills.
  • Able to communicate fluently in iSiZulu and English.
  • Good Computer Skills (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Ms Project).
  • Punctuality and respect for rules and procedures.
  • Able to work independently, i.e. with minimal supervision and well under pressure.
  • Must be able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding work-related information and data.
