A catwalk that offers hope to women in Bangladesh

Fashion designer Rima Tadmory has announced that she is staging a fundraising fashion show, ‘A Tale of Two Tailors’, inspired by a visit to Islamic Relief projects in Bangladesh. It will take place in her home city of Birmingham on September 24.

Rima visited Bangladesh with Islamic Relief earlier this year, and was particularly inspired by a microfinance project in Rangpur that has provided women with the sewing machines, materials and training needed to start their own sewing businesses.

The women Rima met are just some of the thousands being empowered by support from Islamic Relief Bangladesh, helping them to earn a decent income and build a better future for their children. Rima hopes to help many more women like those she met by raising funds for Islamic Relief.

Since her return from Bangladesh, the fashionista has been raising awareness of the work done by Islamic Relief. Now she is planning to raise funds too, at her fashion show appropriately titled ‘A Tale of Two Tailors’.

As well as raising funds, the highly anticipated show aims to reflect the fascinating journey of this up-and-coming Muslim fashion designer to meet women in Bangladesh whose energy and enterprise have profoundly influenced her outlook on life.

“The work Islamic Relief is doing in Bangladesh is truly amazing,” says Rima Tadmory. “The lives of the women benefitting from the microfinance project have been completely transformed, and I’d be delighted if this fashion show raises enough funds to help improve the lives of more women.”

Others from the world of fashion in attendance at the launch event for the fashion show included lifestyle and fashion blogger Habiba Da Silva, designer and stylist Nabiila Bee, make-up artist Sadia Hussain, hair stylist Sofia Qayyum and Rumana from The Great British Sewing Bee.

“Having learned more about the way in which this fashion show will enable Islamic Relief to help women have a better future, I’m so happy to be able to support A Tale of Two Tailors,” says Habiba Da Silva.

The fashion show takes place on Saturday 24th September at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. For tickets please click here.
